Linking up with Jodi with a portrait of each of my children once every week for 2016.

Kitty: when you were a teeny tiny girl and struggling to fall asleep in your pram I did sometimes find that speed walking helped you to settle.  Somehow my fast walking pace must have the right cadence for you, and maybe, just maybe, a flicker of memory from that time is still stored in your brain because last Sunday when you were taking your babies for a walk around Grandma and Grandad’s drive you were sprinting.  Properly, full on, both feet off the ground sprinting – brilliant! This has been a lovely week for you; you came home with star of the week for some good work and a lovely attitude to learning.  It’s the latter that makes me so very very proud of you; you’re growing up at speed and it’s a pleasure to get to know the girl you are becoming.

Elma: oh my little miss cheeky! I took a series of photos one morning with the sun pouring into Pip’s bedroom long before it was any sensible sort of getting up time; pictures that capture you giggling and peeking over the windowsill to take a look at the morning, and yet it’s this picture that I couldn’t resist sharing – asked to smile yet pulling funny faces, and arms outstretched for a hug – it’s you to a tee!

Pip: Monkey see, Monkey do – anything the girls can do, so can you – at least in your mind.  So when your sister momentarily abandoned her scooter you dropped your hockey stick like a hot potato and made a beeline to try it out.  Which in your case means standing on it and looking very pleased with yourself!!

Me and Mine 2016: April

30/04/2016

Every month I try not to cut it too close to the wire in getting my Me and Mine photos but this month the good intentions rather slipped away from me.  I did think about taking photos when we were up north last weekend but it was one of those afternoons where everyone is just so relaxed and happy in their pottering about that I didn’t want to break the mood by trying to pull everyone together for photos.  And then we had rainy days, and cloudy days, and cold days, and a day when Kitty was home from school after a bit of a nasty clonk in the playground.  I was absolutely determined that I’d take pictures on Thursday and as I left work under sunny skies it all seemed like a very good idea but the nearer the train got to home the more the clouds gathered and as I walked through the door the heavens opened, rain smacking into the glass and trickling down to pool on the patio.  And when a quick check on the weather forecast showed pouring rain for Friday evening I did seriously think about turfing the whole family out of bed at 6am to get dressed and take photos before I left for work.  Fortunately for all of us they have enough sense to completely ignore such a crazy plan.

And it seems that just this once the photography muses are smiling on me because yesterday turned out to be the most beautiful evening.  Lovely enough that H was easily persuaded that we should all go for a walk down to the woods in search of some bluebells and to run off the little three’s extra energy before supper.  So off we went; the most tech laden explorers ever to go for a wander.

In the early evening it was beautiful and pretty much deserted, we didn’t see another person the whole time we were there, just us, a patch of sunlight, and the bluebells in all their riot of blue.

And the result is some of my favourite Me and Mine photos yet.  Yes we’re not posed, and I’m not entirely sure I can claim that everyone is looking at the camera if Pip has his eyes shut but they’re happy photos in one of our favourite spots near home and they sum up a really lovely month.

April has been pretty special in the ordinary everyday stakes, despite the crazy weather (seriously, I love snow as much as the next eskimo, but snow when it’s nearly May?!).  We celebrated our tenth wedding anniversary as a little family of five, and then H and I were treated to the decadent luxury of a night away by Grandma and Grandad who stepped up as chief babysitters to all three of our wriggly cherubs, and claim to have had a wonderful time themselves, if slightly sleep deprived.

The icing on the cake was discovering that I’m a MADs Finalist for the Best Craft Blog category – and there’s still part of me that can’t quite believe it every time I write it! (if you haven’t voted yet and you’d like to, all the details are here – voting is open until 27 May at which point I faithfully promise to stop talking about it – well until September!).

And just to round it off, Pip gave us one whole night’s sleep all the way from 7.30 through to 5.45 which is frankly nothing short of amazing, and only the third time I think he’s ever slept through, and then my sweet and lovely Kitty came home with Star of the Week from school.

I am completely ridiculously proud of her, funny faces and all.

I’m not claiming my life is unadulterated rainbows and unicorns, for one thing I’m still waiting on the helpful woodland creatures to come and do the housework. But these are photos of joy and celebration; they’ve captured that magic feeling of Friday night that comes from knowing that we’re all going to be together again for the weekend (and the bank holiday – yay!)  – and just possibly the anticipation of this month’s bribery – fish and chips for supper!
