Siblings 2016: January

15/01/2016

And so another year of the Siblings Project begins. Yippee! I am so happy to be back for another year of watching all our little sibling groups grow up every month. I always thought that this would be an easier photo project to do than Me and Mine, which takes a bit of effort and the remote trigger to organise the whole family on the far side of the camera, and when I started and just had two little preschoolers that was probably true, a lot of my shots were of my two little girls exploring the world together.

But then with Pip’s arrival, and his growth into someone who has very decided views of his own about what is to happen and is not afraid to express them, and Kitty starting school, my days aren’t filled with a tiny trio anymore, and that makes these photos all the more precious to me, and the motivation to take the pictures all the greater.

and so to start off the new year I had a lovely vision of a shot of my three all curled up on our big bed together.  They love hanging out on the bed and chatting while I get changed when I get home from work in the evenings, and sneaking in a crafty bounce or two if they think I’m not looking so I thought it would be the perfect shot.

Oh how a girl can dream.  Kitty and Elma curled up quite happily but Pip did not want to be parted from Mummy and did not want to be upstairs, a state of affairs rendered all the more confusing by the fact that Mummy was upstairs, but any suggestion that he might want to sit with his sisters was met with a howl of protest and a tiny boy flinging himself towards the camera.  I contemplated bribery but as his bribe of choice was very clearly getting to push all the buttons on that nice shiny black box, I conceded defeat, and we went downstairs and out to play hockey in the garden.Space for the butterflies - Siblings

And so it’s from the garden that I bring you my little trio this month, all playing their own similar but distinct versions of a game their Daddy loves.  He was, rather appropriately, out playing hockey when these were taken which made it all the more apt.Space for the butterflies - Siblings

They aren’t the photos that I planned to take of my three but you never can rely on plans when you add three little ones into the mix, and the remind me how much I love the candid pictures that I have of Kitty and Elma, and how much Pip is of an age and a size that he too can be off adventuring with them within reason.

And if that’s how we’re starting the year, I think it’s going to be a good one.

This year we have a new badge (and so very pretty it is too), a new Instagram account (my favourite sort of social media) over at @siblings_project_ so do come and say hi and share your photos with us on the #siblingsproject hashtag.  But most of all I can’t wait to see all your pictures and those of my lovely cohosts; Lucy at Dear Beautiful, Katie at Mummy Daddy Me, Amber at Goblin Child, Annie at Fable & Folk and Keri-Anne at Gingerlilly Tea so do link up below:

They are prefect photos. I rarely manage to get the shots of my two that I want, but then I look back over them, so natural and their little personalities and bond shines through. Your three look so content in each other’s company x

Thank you, I think they are a happy little trio!

Love these; even if they aren’t exactly the pictures you envisaged! It looks like they are having a whole ton of fun together 🙂

    • Carie 15/01/2016 at 9:56 pm

Definitely – anything Daddy does the girls want to copy so we’re hockey mad around here!

  • Emma 15/01/2016 at 11:34 am

Oh such lovely photos! I feel like I failed miserably this month as my children wouldn’t stay still for long enough, so I just have a couple of photos with them both in shot, but not looking at each other! Hehe! xx

There’s no such thing as failure in the Siblings Project – it all counts because if we wanted studio portraits we’d go to a studio and take a portrait – candid all the way!

These are lovely photos! They look like they are having the best time together.

    • Carie 15/01/2016 at 9:57 pm

Thank you, they are loving hockey at the moment 🙂

I love that first shot anyway… Even if it wasn’t quite what you first envisaged! Little Pip in the foreground and the girls looking on… I’m glad we’re not the only ones who seem to be perpetually attire in princess dresses!x

    • Carie 15/01/2016 at 10:01 pm

Princess dresses, lots of play silk capes – so rarely actual clothes!!

He is SO blooming cheeky!!!!! Look at those gorgeous cheeks — I just want to squish him!! Love that the fact the girls are just bimbling about like princesses too — just as it should be! Beautiful pics Carie xx #SiblingsProject

    • Carie 15/01/2016 at 10:02 pm

Ah well princesses definitely play hockey in our house – we’re more “worst princess running away with the dragon” than “sleeping beauty waiting to be rescued”!!

I always love seeing the photos of your beautiful family each month Carie even if they may not quite be the ones you were hoping to take! Trying to get both my girls to look at the camera is challenging enough – I can imagine adding a third child into the mix can make it nigh on impossible at times! I love the photo of Kitty and Elma sitting in the chair and Pip standing behind it, and the ones of the playing hockey in the garden look like a lot of fun. Love your new blog design as well! 🙂

    • Carie 15/01/2016 at 10:03 pm

Thank you very much – I thought it was rather fun having Pip play peepo over the back – although he does look a little bit like he’s about to start knighting them with a hockey stick!

  • Hannah | MakeDo&Push 15/01/2016 at 10:42 pm

Oh my goodness! So much of Pip’s personality comes through in these photos! So adorable and gorgeous! xxx

    • Carie 17/01/2016 at 8:57 pm

Oh and he has bags and bags of it – and a very fabulous “I am not amused” expression!

  • Caroline (Becoming a SAHM) 16/01/2016 at 6:23 am

Aww they clearly have so much fun together Carrie! Lively shots even if they weren’t the ones you intended on taking and sharing. I imagine getting 3 of them together is definitely a challenge! Xx

    • Carie 17/01/2016 at 8:58 pm

It’s certainly proving interesting – I need our long light summer evenings back, then I can get them feeling all warm and snuggly straight out of the bath!

  • lucy at dear beautiful 16/01/2016 at 3:36 pm

Awww, love these photos, they look like they are having so much fun. And they are outside… it feels so long since we’ve been outside for a play! I’m definitely finding three a bit of a challenge too, not least because it increases your chances of someone looking the wrong way or pulling a funny face or just simply not wanting to play along. But life wouldn’t be fun without a challenge or two now would it? x

    • Carie 17/01/2016 at 9:04 pm

Our garden is definitely not benefitting from it – I can only hope they’ll be some grass left at the end of it! The real challenge I think is when you have a baby who is old enough to express an opinion, but who can’t really be bribed because he doesn’t understand the concept of later – hence hockey photos! But I know I’ll be glad to have captured the moment 🙂

  • Katie @mummydaddyme 16/01/2016 at 8:40 pm

It makes such a difference Pip being mobile and standing in the photos. He looks like he is right in there in the action now. And I agree with Lucy that is crazy you are outside, our garden is such a state at the moment but it is our aim to get it looking lovely for Spring and Summer. x

    • Carie 17/01/2016 at 9:21 pm

Ours will be suffering for it – but we have a little bunch of fresh air fiends – especially Pip!

  • Mummy of Two + 1 17/01/2016 at 7:40 pm

It’s so hard trying to get three in a photo together isn’t it but you’ve managed some gorgeous shots there!

    • Carie 17/01/2016 at 9:11 pm

Thank you – it’s definitely a challenge to catch them at a moment when they actually want to have their picture taken!

  • Becky | Spirited Puddle Jumper 18/01/2016 at 4:47 pm

Such gorgeous photos, and especially well done trying to get all three together- it’s hard enough with just my two! Can’t believe how grown up Pip seems already x

  • Colette B 18/01/2016 at 9:46 pm

It’s definitely harder to get them all together when there’s two at school isn’t it!

  • Sally 20/01/2016 at 8:33 pm

Love what Pip adds to all those pictures!

  • Katy (What Katy Said) 27/01/2016 at 9:50 am

Gosh isn’t Pip looking grown up! Well done you for getting out to take the photos too- I am just not brave enough to be outside right now, far too cold haha! #SiblingsProject
