Elma Family Kitty Me and Mine Photography Pip

Me and Mine 2015: May

Or “My family and my garden. Again”!

I did have high hopes of getting out and about to find somewhere pretty and beautiful for our pictures this month, but despite, or perhaps because of the bank holiday this week has been busy busy busy, with birthdays and parties and the everyday ordinary of family life. And so our pictures are last minute.  The sort of last minute when you get up on a Saturday morning thinking that it’ll be a piece of cake to take a picture today, and it’s sunny too.  But then I took Kitty to a birthday party (she has the best social life of all of us), and when we got home it was time for Pip to take a nap, and then by the time he’d woken up, Kitty was having a snooze, and then it was time for supper and the light was fading.

So I did what anyone would do, I bribed them with Chinese for supper and set the camera up in the garden.

But for a little bit of variety, and because we had cloud cover and fairly ambient light, we went for another bit of the garden that’s currently in full bloom.

And for the first few photos all was well, we were calm, we were mostly smiling, and occasionally we were even looking at the camera.

Pip looks rather worried at all this outpouring of affection doesn’t he.

But then came the inevitable moment when supper kicked in and the giggles started.  Oh the giggles.  It’s a good job we take pictures in our own back garden because anyone seeing us would think we were loosing the plot.

Although this month I have to take some responsibility for the collapse of our normally staid and sensible personalities, and not just in the matter of the provision of sesame prawn toast.  I’ve been trying to think of ways to get Pip and the girls to look at the camera; they’re mostly interested in each other and us and there’s nothing on the camera and no one jumping up and down and making silly noises to attract their attention or make them laugh.  So as we piled out of the house I reached into the dressing up box and at the last minute added a little something to my camera.

Which might just have proved a little irresistible to a certain young lady.

H, me, Kitty, Pip – and Ariel of course.

Well why not.

My family, in May:

And for this month’s outtake I present to you what happens when you mildly suggest that the family might like to smile while you’re doing a few setting up shots.

Maybe I should have taken the photos before the Chinese!

Carie, I absolutely LOVE these photos. You look like you’re having so much fun, and you all look so closely snuggled together. Plus I love how coordinated you all look too. Gorgeous!!! x

    • Carie 03/06/2015 at 3:10 pm

I’d love to say I planned the outfits – but it was mostly accidental!!

  • Nasreen 31/05/2015 at 7:22 am

Just gorgeous, and wow even one with all eyes forward! Looks very light out…what time did you have supper?? Now that the days are longer it’s a rare occasion that I get dinner on the table before 9 (although we are in Italy…)

    • Carie 03/06/2015 at 3:06 pm

Much earlier than nine! We usually eat between 6 and 7 hence why we still have the light – and we’re further north which helps at this time of year

  • Claire @ Clarina's Contemplations 31/05/2015 at 7:42 am

Awww… What a gorgeous, fun photo shoot! And I love the red wig. Love Pip’s sheer confusion as to what is going on… The girls are clearly old pros!!! So sweet… And sometimes the shots of silliness in the garden are the best ones!

    • Carie 03/06/2015 at 3:05 pm

Poor boy, I think he’s constantly wondering what on earth he was born into!

  • Louise 31/05/2015 at 7:49 am

Lol I love your family photos from the garden and you always look like you are having so much fun together and just enjoying those precious moments of family life. Love your idea to put a wig on the camera even if it didn’t stay there very long! 🙂

    • Carie 03/06/2015 at 3:05 pm

I think the idea of something on the camera is a good one – just not perhaps the Ariel wig!!

  • Steph 31/05/2015 at 8:39 am

What gorgeous photos! Love the garden setting, and the red wig!! You have a beautiful family x

    • Carie 03/06/2015 at 3:04 pm

As always I love how fun your shots are darling the kids seem to have grown up so much this month. Especially little man!! Wow. Gorgeous. #meandmine

    • Carie 03/06/2015 at 3:03 pm

Haven’t they just – and it’s not just mine, there must be something in the weather because all our little ones are looking bigger this month

  • Lotta 31/05/2015 at 11:14 am

Lovely memories of family fun! Maybe a wig for everyone next time?!!!

    • Carie 03/06/2015 at 3:03 pm

Ah that’s our one and only unless you include the Elsa plait – thank goodness!

  • LauraCYMFT 31/05/2015 at 1:04 pm

These are lovely photos and I think your garden has a beautiful backdrop for your family pictures.

    • Carie 03/06/2015 at 3:02 pm

that one little spot is definitely looking rather gorgeous at the moment it’s true!

  • Kathryn 31/05/2015 at 1:44 pm

Beautiful family photos, and I must admit, I am rather envious of your garden as it makes such a perfect backdrop for your photos. It looks like you had so much fun taking these x

    • Carie 03/06/2015 at 3:02 pm

There is a degree of selective editing on the backdrop front – I promise you the rest of it doesn’t look this good!

  • Katie @mummydaddyme 31/05/2015 at 2:37 pm

They may just be in your garden again Carie but I think these are the perfect family photos. It just goes to show you that you don’t need to have an exciting backdrop to have a beautiful memory. I love how closely you are snuggled together and it’s weird now Pip is a little bigger, he just seems to make your family seem so much larger- haha that probably doesn’t make sense but it does in my head! 😉 x

    • Carie 03/06/2015 at 3:01 pm

No it definitely makes sense – for one thing I keep having to move the camera back to make sure I’ve got everyone in!

  • Hayley (@hayleyfromhome) 31/05/2015 at 6:17 pm

Oh this have really made me laugh, you all look like you are having so much fun which makes for beautiful photos. I quite like that you have a few in your garden so you can see the changes over the year, lovely #meandmine

    • Carie 03/06/2015 at 3:01 pm

It was certainly nice to have the flowers in bloom, they didn’t flower last year so we’re celebrating having that bit of colour with us again!

  • Janine 31/05/2015 at 8:45 pm

Haha love the red Hair. #meandmine

    • Carie 03/06/2015 at 3:00 pm

      It’s good isn’t it!

  • Caroline (Becoming a SAHM) 31/05/2015 at 9:00 pm

  • Jane - Our Little Escapades 31/05/2015 at 9:05 pm

I love these photos you all look so happy. Love the wig too, I need to do something like that ;0) x

    • Carie 03/06/2015 at 3:00 pm

It’s the first time I’ve tried it, and mostly on a whim, but it’s definitely an experiment worth repeating

  • Stephanie 31/05/2015 at 10:13 pm

Fantastic set of photos!! They made me smile and they made you smile doing them!

    • Carie 03/06/2015 at 2:59 pm

thank you – they definitely did!

  • Sarah (@tobygoesbananas) 31/05/2015 at 10:16 pm

Oh these pictures are adorable! They really capture real family life – I think some of my favourite Me & Mine photos are those taken in the living room or the garden, after all that is what family life is like for most of us, most of the time!

    • Carie 03/06/2015 at 2:59 pm

Some of my favourites are the relaxed very candid ones too – it’s a capture of real life then, rather than a portrait of the family members if that makes sense.

  • Amelia @ Oh Little One Sweet 31/05/2015 at 10:19 pm

These are just perfect family photos Carie- they are so cheerful and happy- and the red wig ones are hilarious! What a lovely family you have- and your garden looks lush! Amelia x

    • Carie 03/06/2015 at 2:58 pm

      thank you 🙂

  • Sarah Christie 31/05/2015 at 10:31 pm

I love these photos, it looks like you had so much fun taking them, every single photo made me smile all so beautiful x

    • Carie 03/06/2015 at 2:58 pm

Thank you very much, we certainly did have fun!

  • Bex @ The Mummy Adventure 31/05/2015 at 10:36 pm

I am in awe of the fact you got 5 people looking at the camera! Ours was pretty last minute as well this month (well about as last minute as you can possibly get!)

    • Carie 03/06/2015 at 2:58 pm

I think it’s the first time I’ve managed it and it was Pip’s ninth Me and Mine picture – which probably says everything about having three children!

  • Amy @ Very Much So... 31/05/2015 at 11:39 pm

These are such lovely, fun shots. I love the one of Pip looking confused whilst you’re all kissing. Bless. x

    • Carie 03/06/2015 at 2:57 pm

He always looks so funny – it’s as if he’s thinking “what are they all up to!”

  • Californian Mum in London 31/05/2015 at 11:46 pm

Such cute pics. I especially love the second one where you’re all kissing one another. I think we need to do some garden pics. Yours look very relaxed and happy!

    • Carie 03/06/2015 at 2:57 pm

      Aww thank you 🙂

  • Alex Bump to Baby 01/06/2015 at 8:18 am

These are perfect. Such fun, happy family photos. And I love that your bribed them with a Chinese 😉 xx

    • Carie 03/06/2015 at 2:56 pm

Bribery and corruption all the way when it comes to photos!

  • Julia @ Rainbeaubelle 01/06/2015 at 8:54 am

I love these photos, especially the one of you all kissing! So lovely. All our photos are either in the lounge or garden at the moment too! Love joining in with Me and Mine. x

    • Carie 03/06/2015 at 2:56 pm

Aww thank you – I’m sure at the end of the day I’ll be glad of all the pictures at home as much as the ones with pretty backdrops!

  • Chantal Milk&Nappies 01/06/2015 at 9:06 am

I love your family shots in the garden! I especially love the one of you all kissing this month! It looks like you guys were having a lot of fun taking the photos and you can see how much love there is between you all – its so wonderful 🙂 xx

    • Carie 03/06/2015 at 2:55 pm

I figure if it’s always something that is fun and full of giggles then they’ll keep saying yes each month!

  • ailsa 01/06/2015 at 12:52 pm

Such fun photos, in many ways nicer than ‘proper’ photos.

    • Carie 03/06/2015 at 2:54 pm

      Definitely truer to real life!!

  • Alexandra @dontcallmestepmummy 01/06/2015 at 3:39 pm

Awww these are lovely. Your garden is a beautiful backdrop, and you all look so happy and giggly, they’re just perfect. Snuggled up close and hilarious with the wig. I love them #meandmine

    • Carie 03/06/2015 at 2:52 pm

      thank you 🙂

  • Jess @ Picnics in the Rain 01/06/2015 at 8:58 pm

Brilliant photos Carie! You all look so happy and I love that you show your personalities in these portraits! Great idea with the wig (the teddy trick is still working with Rosalie) x

    • Carie 03/06/2015 at 2:48 pm

And long may the teddy trick continue to work – your pictures were gorgeous this month!

  • Rachel @ The Ordinary Lovely 01/06/2015 at 9:01 pm

These are AMAZING photos, Carie. Never mind trying to find the perfect backdrop, these photos are as perfect as they get. I adore the Ariel wig 🙂

    • Carie 03/06/2015 at 2:47 pm

Aww thank you – the Ariel wig is hilarious – it was part of a present from her grandparents and when Kitty got it she wore it for a whole day straight!

  • Amy @ Fun Being Mum 01/06/2015 at 10:01 pm

Aw such great, fun photos of you and your lovely family! x

    • Carie 03/06/2015 at 2:47 pm

      thank you 🙂

  • Jess @ Catch A Single Thought 02/06/2015 at 2:49 pm

It looks like you had a lot of fun taking these; I love the addition to the camera! I tried telling Meg and Eli that Peppa Pig was hiding in my lens but all that meant was they came up really, really close to the camera! I love Pip’s face on the second photo, it’s priceless.

    • Carie 03/06/2015 at 2:43 pm

I like your plan – I might try that on the girls next time and see what they make of it!

  • Katie 02/06/2015 at 11:05 pm

    *sneaks in looking sheepish*
Just popping by for a very long overdue visit Carie and i can’t believe how much they have all changed – especially Pip!! Looking like such a little boy now 🙂
So glad to see you all looking well and happy. And bribery is my parenting style full stop, still waiting for it to click in on seth yet though 😉 xxx

    • Carie 03/06/2015 at 2:42 pm

No sheep expressions required!! Life is life and yes, Pip has got huge – not that he was ever small to start with!
