Linking up with Jodi with a portrait of each of my children once every week for 2015.

Space for the Butterflies - an eclectic handmade life

Kitty: We went to Charlecote Park this week to while away an afternoon in the sunshine and you were quite determined to use the time to tick off a few things on your 50 Things to do before you’re 11 3/4 list.  And if C on the map said try to blow a grass trumpet, you were going to blow a grass trumpet.  I don’t think I’ve done it since I was a teenager and it was a bit hit and miss for both of us but you sounded out a few really great strong notes and you are now the very proud owner of a new sticker for your book.

Elma: Speaking of 50 Things, you have your first sticker, for building a most excellent den with Kitty and me.  Kit wasn’t too keen on going inside but you crawled in and seemed very at home.

Pip: We went to visit the family last weekend, and I have all sorts of pictures of our family with our bigger family, but of them all I love this picture of you with your wonderful Godmamma.  She’s honoured because that’s one of the very few hugs you gave anyone other than Mummy all weekend.  Including Kitty and your Daddy!

Lovely pictures Carie… Had always thought my girls were too young for the 50 things list… But maybe I need to get them started!!!

I think Elma is really, but Kitty’s just about the right starting age to get the motivation behind doing them which I think is that watershed moment – she’s done plenty of the activities already but we’ve never counted them because we thought she didn’t quite get it. Elma will start earlier because where Kitty goes, she goes too!

They’re brilliant aren’t they – we’re just getting started with Kitty and I think she’s going to have a blast getting to 50!

Had to google the 50 things…how fun! My oldest daughter is 11 1/2, and there are one or two things I bet she hasn’t done…though I had to google conkers, too (still not sure I get what the game is?)! I guess this may be the summer to try a butterfly kit so she can cross that off too!

Conkers are horse chestnuts – a bit like sweet chestnuts but harder and more rounded. You poke a hole through the middle, put it on a string and then the game is to take turns one holding their conker up by the string and the other trying to hit it with their strung conker. Whoever’s conker falls off the string first looses and the ‘intact’ one wins and adds the win (and any the conker had before) to its tally. EG if I’ve beaten 2 people with my conker then I have a 2, if someone beats me they add me, and my 2 to their original score. Writing it down it’s clear that it makes no sense whatsoever and therefore must be quintessentially English!

What sweet pictures. The one of Pip and his god-mother is lovely. We have a shy little man as well. Every hug is a gift for sure!

Hope your week is a wonderful one. xo
