2014: The year that was

02/01/2015

I woke up on 1st January to the sounds of someone small and cute making snuffly milk noises from the moses basket beside me.  It was still five something o’clock in the morning, H was still fast asleep beside me and across the landing one of the girls rolled and shuffled in bed.

“Happy New Year baby boy” I whispered, and with that I realised that it wasn’t 2014 any more, and that felt a little bittersweet.

Because for us, 2014 was a very special year, the year that brought us Pip; the Little Bump that grew and grew through the spring and summer and the baby boy that nestled into the heart of our family and now we can’t remember life without him.  And if that weren’t enough it was a year of watching our girls grow into lovely slightly bigger girls, seeing them happy and thriving, a year when I found a way to carve out a little time to do the things that make me happy, and very good year for my professional alter ego too.

I don’t really want it to be over. I liked 2014.  I’m sure that 2015 will be a wonderful year, but for now it’s fun to look back a little and remember some of the things that made it so special.

Favourite thing I did just for me:

Blogtacular

Space for the Butterflies - an eclectic handmade family life

The first time I’d ever spent a night away from Elma, and only the second away from Kitty, and oh was it worth it. It was a conference that got me as a blogger and it was refreshing and wonderful and I just can’t wait until this year, the ticket is already booked!

The girlsquilts were pretty special, but I think there can only be one winner here, the very best of my knitting ability poured out for my little boy:

I worry that I’m sort of rubbing it in to anyone that had a less than brilliant year but it’s true, 2014 has been very good to us 🙂

Oh I love this post and I love that I remember most of the posts from when they were published. I have only been to BritMums, last year being my first time, and have promised myself that I will go to another conference this year so it could well be Blogtacular! x

Oh do come to Blogtacular, it was wonderful last year and I think it’s going to be just as great in 2015

What a great year, I’m sure 2015 will be just as good. And Pip’s blanket is amazing, I’m not sure how I missed it originally but I don’t think I’ve seen it before.

    • Carie 08/01/2015 at 9:08 am

I’ve made each of the children a blanket like this (different patterns but still fairisle) I know I don’t find it too technically difficult to make but I also feel that it’s giving each child something that is at the pinnacle of my knitting skill – as well as a lot of time!
