Books Family Kitty Reading what we're reading

The Great Sheep Shenanigans {what we’re reading}

If ever there was a book for the child of a knitter and a quilter I think this might be it. I mean any book that has patchwork endpapers was always going to have me at hello.

It’s a fabulous story too – our anti-hero, a certain young wolf by the name of Lou Pine (yes, I know, it’s just too irresistible a pun) thinks he is as cunning as a fox who’s just been made professor of cunning at Oxford University. He’s after a tasty young lamb for a snack but somehow, quite inexplicably, all of his efforts at disguise seem to fall short.

He gets shot by a water pistol, ends up stripy like a skunk, and his efforts at wrapping himself up in nice fluffy candy floss leave him sticky, pink, and hounded by bees.

And so he comes up with the best plan yet, and pays a visit to Red Riding Hood’s granny with a giant ball of wool and demands for a nice wooly jumper. But knitters are canny and there’s no way Granny is going to let Lou get away with his dastardly plot.Space for the Butterflies - an eclectic handmade family life - What we're Reading - The Great Sheep Shenanigans

Suffice to say that our friend meets not a frolic of cute fluffy innocent newborns but the alpha of the flock; the big, the strong, and the horned, Rambo the Ram (who comes complete with boxing gloves)!

I’m rapidly becoming a huge fan of Peter Bently’s books, and not just because he wrote a book with knitting in it, or because he embraces the terrible puns head on. There’s such lovely language in The Great Sheep Shenanigans, words like “skedaddling” and “,” that are just plain fun to wrap your tongue around.

Which can only be a good thing when a rather poorly little miss decides that it’s the perfect medicine to make her feel better while she cosies up on the sofa for the weekend.

And as far as Kitty’s concerned it’s a very funny book because you have to say “poo” when you read it. When you’re three that’s hilarious.

Space for the Butterflies: What We're Reading

Hopefully this week I’ll manage to get my American months and English months in the right order and make the linky work! A big thank you to Claire at Great British Family who shared the very gorgeous Honk Honk! Baa Baa!, a sort of lift the flap book in reverse that sounds just perfect for little ones.

And if you have a favourite why not share it here; each linky will stay open for a week so there’s plenty of time to join in. And so, without further ado, it’s over to you. I’ve told you what we are reading, now tell me what we should be reading!
