Family Kitty

Kittyisms – January 2014

29/01/2014

Another month passes and Miss Kit shows no signs of being any the less of a chatterbox.  She fills our day with such beautifully random conversations, it’s both wonderful and at times intensely puzzling to see the world again through the eyes of a three year old.  I’m trying to keep up the practice of making at least some of Elma’s nap time focussed just on Kitty, whether playing games together or pottering around in the kitchen getting the lunch together, and it’s giving us the chance to talk about all the things uppermost in her mind.  Sometimes it’s just talking through something that we’ve done recently to cement it in her mind, and sometime I have no idea where the thoughts come from; I’m just glad they do, because I love her Kittyisms, and I’m going to miss them when they’re gone!

So from this month:

To a very cross Elma who had just been restrained from diving headfirst off the end of the bed:
“Don’t be scared little munchkin! Mummy and Daddy are here!”

I don’t think scared was exactly how she was feeling sweets!

While sitting at the dinner table:
“Daddy! Please may I play with your that?”
“Which that sweetheart?”
“The that one”
“Try to use your words please lovely; can you describe it?”
“Wee-oo, wee-oo, ah!”
“Ah! Of course!” – passes over Lego R2-D2

To Elma
“I love you my baby shark!”

One morning in the kitchen:
“Kitty please don’t play with the air pump, it isn’t a toy.”
“Actually Mummy it is a toy – at the party.”

“I’m not Kitty, I’m a mermaid!”

On the way back from nursery
“Mummy! I played with E and K today but I didn’t play with the boys.”
“Oh really”
“No, I didn’t want to play with the boys cos boys are naughty!”
“Oh dear! but not all boys are naughty are they? Daddy’s a boy and he isn’t naughty.”
“No, he is a nice boy.  The nice boys can come to my house, but not the naughty ones”
“OK then sweetie!”

To H, who’d accidentally dropped Angelina Ballerina’s Christmas:
“No Daddy! Don’t throw my book that Grandpa got me for Christmas!” (another bibliophile in the making!)

In the car one day:
“Mummy! I dropped my book!”
“Well I can’t pick it up right now because I’m driving.”
“Why?”
“Well because I am.”
“Why?”
“Umm….”

This really made me smile, 3 is such a fun age! I used to be a kindergarten teacher and, 9 years later (erk), I still remember some of the crackers the kids came out with. My favourite ones were

    “why does Santa say hohoho?”

    and

    “do monkeys have tails?”
    “yes”
    “do dinosaurs have tails?”
    “yes”
    “do you have a tail?”
    “no, but my daddy does”
    “…”

Oh that’s such a good question – I have no idea where hohoho comes from! What did you come up with?

I’d love to say I came up with some witty and all-encompassing response, but the truth is that I was completely stumped!

Well thank you for the advance warning – I’ve got until next December to come up with something clever!

Thank you! I’m not quite sure why poor baby was being called a shark but I think it was supposed to be a good thing!

So cute! I love the baby shark one too, and recognise being told your child is someone else- that’s a Kirby special right now. It certainly makes for an entertaining day!

It’s such a lovely window into their imaginations isn’t it – and definitely brightens the day!
