Family

According to Kitty, Elma and Pip

03/01/2017

browse this site This blog is first and foremost a record of our family and  as much as it is mostly my story of motherhood, now that the three littlest members of the family have got some strong opinions of their own, it’s fun to have a little peek into the way they see the world.  And so, in time honoured tradition, it’s time to hand the blog over to Kitty, Elma and Pip for their round up of the last year and their intentions for 2017:

This is the first year that both Kitty and Elma’s answers are genuine intentions for the year ahead, and their own wishes.  Even when they gave the same answer it’s because we all love Switzerland (who doesn’t) and not because it was borrowed from the nearest sibling. I have no idea how many of them we can bring to pass, although Compton Verney is probably a given so I suspect Pip will have a wonderful year.

Last year I could see that Kitty’s memory was reaching further back and putting things in sufficient order that she had a sense of what ‘this year’ actually meant and this year I love that it’s gone a little further; her intentions aren’t for the things she’s going to do in the next week, or even the next month, she’s looking all the way through to the summer and making some serious plans. And if we work out what a paper shed should look like then I know we’ll make it happen.

This is the fourth time I’ve asked Kitty the New Year’s Questions (they were asked in 20132014 and 2015) and I think I’ll keep asking until she no longer wants to ask because I love seeing how her answers, and Elma’s and Pip’s, are changing as they all grow up; a time capsule of life at six, four, and two.

Do you ask your little ones their New Year’s plans? And if you do, what do you ask?

What a lovely idea! I must remember to do this! Such lovely answers and it must be brilliant to look back on! Can you imagine how excited they’ll be when they’re older to look back on all this? Xx

I really hope so – I know I’d love to find something similar of mine 🙂

What a wonderful way to capture them in this moment. It’s hard to believe how fast they change and how hard it is to remember all of the steps along the way. <3

It’s extraordinary isn’t it! You never realise just how much they’re changing at the time; it’s why I love these little time capsules so much 🙂

O you must – the younger they are the funnier the answers – when Kitty was three her big wish for the year was to go to Sainsburys!

This is so cute! My friend gave me a similar questionnaire which I did with the girls this year, but I never thought to put it on the blog… maybe I will! Thanks for the idea!

Oh do – I love the way kids’ minds work, plus for me it keeps all the answers safe – I’d loose them if they were on paper!

This is such a lovely idea, Carie. And I’m totally with your girls … we’ve just booked flights to Switzerland for later in the year. It was top of my boys’ wish lists for 2017, too.
