Living Arrows 2015: 31/52

Living Arrows: a little moment of the week to pause, savour and treasure

One of the loveliest things about all of us being home for the summer has been being available to meet up with friends and family whenever we feel like it.  We went over to visit one aunt the other week and this week we had the greatest treat when another aunt and uncle came up from the other side of the Cotswolds to spend the day with us.

It was such a truly lovely lovely day that I’m not sure I can even begin to do it justice.

I know I’ve written before about how much it means to me that my children get to know their extended family, and I love how happy and excited the girls were to see their aunt and uncle. And let there be no doubt about it, Mummy move over, this is their aunt and uncle now.

We all sat on the floor and Kitty showed off her school uniform, Elma plopped herself down in her aunt’s lap for a cuddle and Master Pip Squeak was generally entertaining, adorable and duly adored.  We played games, stories were read, cuddles given and I got to have a wonderful chat all about quilting and sewing with my aunt (who makes the most beautiful quilts) while the gentlemen of the party compared notes on how much technical information they have absorbed about knitting (H) and quilting (my uncle) over the years, and it’s true, they both sound like they know what they’re talking about.

I settled Pip for a nap and came back downstairs to find one little girl in each lap, quite happily absorbed, and sat down rather wondering what it was that I did with myself before the children came along, and then gave up thinking in favour of just enjoying watching.

And in the afternoon we went to the park…

This last one is Pip in exactly the same spot as Kitty was when I took our 2011 Christmas Card photo – she was nearly 15 months!

But of all my many many photos, I think this one is my favourite

It’s filled with love and laughter and that to me is what family should be all about, and I’m very lucky and very happy that that’s how I feel about mine.

Growing up around extended family is such a precious thing and after so many years living far away from ours it’s something I’ll never take for granted. Theo has a particularly lovely bond with his 13 year-old neice who he worships!

Wow, they go high on the swings. I do love park photos, such simple life but they create so much fun and smiles for kids. #livingarrows
