Knitting

The quest

20/06/2012

I am on a quest.  A vitally important terribly specific sort of quest. You see a very dear friend of mine is expecting a long awaited and deeply cherished baby in a few weeks’ time and as you know, I am a firm believer that all babies should be welcomed with a little knitwear, especially the super special and beloved sort, therefore I need to get knitting.

E has a deep and long standing affection for the colour purple.  Cadbury purple to be precise.  In fact her wedding dress was a purple silk skirt and jacket with an ivory bustier embroidered with little purple flowers and fabulous purple shoes.

I think that if I can find it, Cadbury purple yarn would make a very sweet little cabled cardigan for a babe of either variety, which leads me to my quest.  I need sport or DK weight yarn, preferably machine washable (because I’d like to stay friends) in that colour purple.

At the moment my top choices as Cephalopod Yarns’ Traveller (100% superwash merino) in Peshawar or possibly Finger Lakes, Blue Moon’s Socks that Rock Mediumweight in Tanzanite (the pictures on Ravelry suggest it’s a deeper colour than it shows up on my monitor), or Fyberspates Scrumptious DK in Purple (not machine washable but worth it).

But before I purchase any or all of the above, I lay my self on your yarny experience – is there anything I’ve missed that I should be considering?  Bonus points if it can come from the UK!

Wollmeise amethyst, it comes in light, medium and dark, I think the light and medium are nearer to what you would like. Machine washable, but you would need to knit two strands together and there are people willing to sell in the 80/20 version of wollmeise. It is a beautiful colour.
